Rabbani for cautious approach to counter challenges

ISLAMABAD Sept 15 (APP): Chairman Senate, Mian Raza Rabbani
Friday underlined the need for cautious approach to counter internal
and external challenges posing threats to national integrity.
He said deliberate and conscious efforts had been made to create a
wedge between the people and the parliament and to make the
parliament redundant.
“Therefore, we need to act cautiously as internal and external
challenges were posing threats to our survival and that all the
institutions have to work in harmony with each other to rid the
nation of issues being faced by the country,” the Chairman said
addressing the out-going batch of short term interns of Senate of
Pakistan.
A function was held at the Parliament House to bid adieu to 42
interns of different universities who had completed internship at
Senate of Pakistan during which they were associated with different
branches of the Secretariat.
Chairman Senate brushed aside the notion that parliament was
being labeled as redundant and nothing more than a debating society.
“It is very necessary to avoid intra-institutional clash and work in
harmony to overcome challenges the nation is faced with.”
Raza Rabbani said Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, in his
August 1947 speech, laid the foundations of what Pakistan had to be
and defined Pakistan as a progressive, welfare, democratic and
federal state.
He stressed the need that institutions that function under the
constitution need to work within the sphere defined in constitution
to develop a broad understanding on the direction in which the
nation state has to move ahead.
The Chairman said young interns were the ambassadors who would
carry the message of the Parliament and remove the misconception
about it.
Secretary Senate Amjed Pervez Malik said that Internship
Program was a unique and fruitful adventure for the Senate of
Pakistan and part of the efforts the current leadership of the
Senate to bridge the gaps between the parliament and the people.
He said the Senate would continue its quest to provide a unique
experience to each intern, where he or she could improve the skills
and leave as ambassadors of the Parliament.
