Hong Kong, Shanghai stocks end sharply higher

HONG KONG, Oct 18, (APP/AFP) – Shares in Hong Kong and Shanghai rallied Tuesday in line with gains across Asia, as tepid US data and comments from a top Federal Reserve official eased concern about the pace of expected US interest rate rises. The Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong added 1.55 percent, or 356.85 points, to close at 23,394.39. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 1.40 percent, or 42.71 points, to end at 3,083.88. The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, added 1.43 percent, or 29.03 points, to close at 2,056.59.
