Aasiya Andrabi, Fahmeeda Sofi arrested in Srinagar

ISLAMABAD, Oct 5 (APP): Indian police arrested Dukhtaran-e-
Millat Chairperson Aasiya Andrabi along with party leader Fahmeeda
Sofi in Kralkhud area Srinagar Indian occupied Kashmir and shifted
them to unknown place.
According to KMS, authorities arrested Aasiya Andrabi and
Fahmeeda Sofi to prevent them from leading anti-India women
rallies. However, hundreds of women defied restrictions and held
forceful rallies across the Kashmir Valley.
One such pro-freedom rally was organized in Sopore. The
rally started from Jamia Masjid Sopore and culminated at Khanqah.
The participants were carrying Pakistani flags, placards and
banners with freedom messages and slogans.
Participants of a freedom rally marched on the streets in
Batamaloo area of Srinagar.Clashes erupted in the area when men
in uniform lobbed teargas shells.
Scores of women also held pro-freedom rallies in Bijbehara
and Tral areas of South Kashmir’s Islamabad and Pulwama districts.
Women first gathered in Jamia Masjid Bijbehara and speakers
from Dukhtaran-e-Millat emphasized the need of unity for
continuation of resistance struggle. Later, they took out a
procession at Martyrs’ graveyard. In Tral and Dadsara areas of
Pulwama district, separate women rallies were held. Indian forces
resorted to teargas shelling at the rally near bus stand in Tral.
However, women gathered again near Batnag where they were
subjected to brute torture by the forces resulting in injuries to
many. The women gathered again and held the rally.
Meanwhile, Dukhtaran-e-Millat leader Nahida Nasreen in a
statement issued in Srinagar strongly condemning the arrest of
Aasiya Andrabi said that her arrest could not break the party’s
resolve to fight for the freedom of Kashmir from Indian occupation.
