Brexit increases Commonwealth’s futuristic role: Deputy HC

LONDON, (MILLAT ONLINE):Pakistan’s Deputy High Commissioner Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri on Friday said that Brexit has increased Commonwealth’s importance and the forthcoming moot here would help strengthen cooperation among member states for the common good.
He said Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held here from April 18-20 would further promote trade and investment among member states and help bring global prosperity.
Highlighting the objectives of CHOGM Hafeez said the summit’s four forums namely Youth, Business, People and Women would discuss multifaceted areas of potential cooperation to response global challenges collectively.
According to the Commonwealth sources, the summit would focus on building secure, sustainable and fair
future for all its citizens, particularly youth.
The Commonwealth is a forum of 52 nations spanning every continent, with a combined population of around 2.4 billion people – over 60% of its people are under 30.The Commonwealth is incredibly diverse, ranging from G7/G20 economies .Unlike other international organisations every member state has an equal voice in the Commonwealth, meaning the interests of its 30 small states are addressed. Trade between Commonwealth countries is projected to hit $1 trillion by 2020, supported by a common language and legal systems.
Its members are united in their commitment to democracy, human rights, the rule of law and the promotion of peace and prosperity – core values which underpin ‘TheCommonwealth Charter’.
The Summit – one of the biggest national events since the Olympic Games – will take place over seven days across London and Windsor with associated events andfestivals, the sources added.For the first time, the sources disclosed, Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle will be among the summit venues. .
