Ex-Iran FM receives Japanese national decoration

Tokyo, (MILLAT ONLINE):The Emperor of Japan Akihito presented the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun to Mottaki in a ceremony held in Tokyo Imperial Palace.

Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also presented the certificate of the national decoration to Mottaki during the ceremony.

Following the ceremony, a gathering also was held in the Iranian Embassy in Tokyo to appreciate the contributions made by Mottaki to the promotion of friendly relations between Japan and Iran and strengthening of bilateral relations during his tenure as Iran’s Ambassador in Tokyo (1995-1999).

Former Japanese Prime Minister Takeo Fukuda, Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group of Iran-Japan Kinichi Komano as well as several Japanese officials, Iranian businessmen and the embassy staff were also present in the gathering.

Addressing the gathering, Fukuda described Mottaki as an ‘honest’ character, expressing hope that the former Iranian envoy continues his efforts for bolstering cordial cooperation between the two countries.

Touching upon Mottaki’s efforts for boosting Tokyo-Tehran ties, Komano said he did his best for expanding bilateral relations during his tenure.

Order of the Rising Sun, the second highest order by Japanese government, is awarded to those who have made distinguished achievements in international relations, promotion of Japanese culture, advancements in their field, development in welfare or preservation of the environment.
