Football: Draw takes Wits back top in South Africa

JOHANNESBURG, (MILLAT/APP/AFP) : Wits drew 0-0 at mid-table Chippa United on Tuesday to reclaim top place as they seek a first South African Premiership title.
The modest Johannesburg club, who have lived in the shadows of Kaizer
Chiefs and Orlando Pirates for decades, lead Cape Town City on goal difference.
Both have 38 points, with SuperSport United just one point behind after a controversial 1-1 draw against resurgent Pirates in Soweto.
New Zealand-born SuperSport striker Jeremy Brockie had a goal ruled out for a marginal offside call and genuine claims for a penalty ignored after being fouled inside the box.
“I was annoyed by those decisions,” said England-born SuperSport coach Stuart Baxter. “We should have won the game.”
Thabo Mnyamane put SuperSport ahead on 55 minutes with a snap shot but Thembinkosi Lorch levelled 14 minutes before time from equally close range.
It was the third consecutive draw for Swede Kjell Jonevret since taking over last month as coach of former African champions Pirates.
The Soweto outfit occupy an unusually low 11th position — 15 points adrift of Wits — with a third of the 30-round league season remaining.
