FRANKFURT, (APP/AFP) – Inflation in
Germany ground almost to a halt again in April, dragged down by falling energy prices, a preliminary estimate showed on Thursday.
Germany’s national inflation yardstick, the consumer price index,
rose by just 0.1 percent April compared with 0.3 percent in March, the federal statistics office Destatis said.
And using the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) — the
barometer used by the European Central Bank — the inflation rate was back in negative territory at minus 0.1 percent in April compared with plus 0.1 percent in March.
The inflation data were a preliminary flash estimate calculated from
consumer price data for six of Germany’s 16 regional states.
Final data based on all 16 states will be published on May 13.
