Indian army harassing Nagrota residents in Jammu

ISLAMABAD, (APP): A pro-India party National Conference
(NC) has raised the complaints about harassment of citizens by Indian Army
in the Indian Held territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), NC’s local President Devender Singh Rana told reporters in Jammu that the army was harassing the residents living along the ammunition depot in Nagrota area.
“Around 4,000 families living near the ammunition depot in Jandrah
area of Nagrota in Jammu district are being harassed by the Army as they
are not allowed to do any type of constructions on their own land.”
He said the people living along the ammunition depot were forced to
lease their land to the army in 1964 and they were promised meager compensation.
“Even today the Army is paying Rs 500 per kanal of land and that too
has not been paid,” Rana said.
Rana said if the grievances of the local residents are not redressed
they would be forced to launch protests.
Some prominent local residents narrated their woes to media,
particularly their helplessness in doing constructions on their own land due to army’s opposition.
