Japan PM says will take emperor’s remarks ‘seriously’

TOKYO, (APP/AFP): Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo
Abe said Monday that his government would take “seriously” Emperor Akihito’s hint at a possible future abdication.
“I will seriously consider the remarks of the emperor to the people,” Abe said, after historic remarks by the 82-year-old monarch who said he was
concerned that weakening health may make it hard to fulfil his duties.
“Considering the emperor’s duties, as well as his age and the burden (of the job), we have to firmly look at what we can do.”
