OIC chief condemns killing of Somali provincial governor in Mogadishu

JEDDAH, Aug 7 (APP/IINA): The General Secretariat of the Organization
of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the killing of Mohamed Ali Elmi, governor of Galgadud region in central Somalia, and his brother, by the al-Shabaab group on Friday in Mogadishu.
OIC Secretary General Dr Yousef Al-Othaimeen expressed his sincere
condolences to the relatives of the victims and to the government of Somalia, noting that this barbaric crime is at variance with the values of Islam. He also appealed to the Somali authorities to arrest the culprits and bring them to justice.
Al-Othaimeen emphasized the principled position of the OIC against all
forms of terrorism and violent extremism.
He renewed the OIC’s solidarity with the new Somali authorities in
their efforts to ensure stability and peace in the country and in their determination to fight al-Shabaab terrorist group that continues to pose a threat to peace and security in Somalia and the region.
