Pakistani diplomat urges enhanced US-Pakistan student exchange

CHICAGO, (APP): Pakistan’s Consul General Faisal Niaz Tirmizi has emphasized the need for greater cooperation between educational institutions of Pakistan and the United States at a dinner he hosted for a group of faculty and students from the Department of Politics, Middle East and South Asian Studies at the University of Chicago.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that large-scale exchange of students would further strengthen relations between the two countries.’
Briefing the students about Pakistan’s efforts to eliminate terrorism from the country, the consul general said that the terrorists had been dealt with a deadly blow. Pakistan, he said, was now on track to winning the war against hatred and bigotry.
The Consulate had arranged a photo display of urban, rural and cultural life in Pakistan. It highlighted features of ongoing development projects in Pakistan and the role of Pakistani women in socio-economic development of the country.
The students expressed keen interest in tourism opportunities in Pakistan. They were especially struck by the beauty of the sites in Northern areas depicted in photos.
Pakistan, Tirmizi said, is a beautiful mosaic of Indus Valley, Gandhara, Muslim/Turkic civilizations and lies at the cross roads of South Asia, Central Asia and Middle East.
The faculty and students thanked Tirmizi for hosting them at his residence and appreciated the role of the Consulate General of Pakistan in fostering relations with regional educational institutions.
