Plane with 55 passengers on board crashes in Russia: official

OSCOW, March 19 (APP/AFP): A plane from Dubai carrying 55
passengers crashed and burst into flames Saturday morning in Rostov-on-Don, in southern Russia, a local official said, without confirming the number of casualties.
“The plane with 55 passengers and four or five crew on board, coming
from Dubai, crashed as it came into land at the airport in Rostov-on-Don,” said Marina Kostioukova, spokeswoman for the local emergencies ministry.
“At this time we do not have any information on victims,” she
said.
The accident happened at 0050 GMT, according to an official statement from
the ministry.
“The Boeing 737 on the Dubai to Rostov-on-Don route caught fire
(after crashing),” said the statement, adding that the fire was brought under control by 0200 GMT.
The plane belonged to a Dubai-based airline, the statement said.
