Quebec toughens suit against CP over train disaster

MONTREAL, Oct 22 (APP/AFP) – The Canadian province of Quebec has toughened its lawsuit against Canadian Pacific Railway for a rail disaster that killed 47 people in 2013, according to a recently filed court document. Quebec alleges the giant Canadian rail company had direct responsibility for one of the worst rail disasters in the country’s history. The July 2013 derailment and explosion occurred after a 72-car train carrying shale oil came loose in the middle of the night, rolled downhill unmanned and derailed in the center of Lac-Megantic, Quebec. More than 2,000 people had to be evacuated from the lakeside town. Firefighters needed two days to put out the raging blaze.
