SEOUL, ‌(MILLATONLINE+Yonhap/APP):South Korea will co-host a conference on fighting violent extremism and terrorism with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) this week, the foreign ministry said Tuesday.

The Inter-Regional Conference on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism and Radicalization that Lead to Terrorism, slated for Thursday and Friday in Seoul, will bring together around 150 government officials and academics from Europe and Asia, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

With the membership of 57 states in Europe, North America and Asia, OSCE is the world’s largest security-oriented intergovernmental organization with mandates to deal with arms control, human rights and other issues.

South Korea has been participating in OSCE as an Asian partner for cooperation. It is the first inter-regional conference of the OSCE to be jointly held with an Asian country.

The meeting will be a venue to share the participating countries’ experiences in fighting extremism and building networks between the government officials and academics, the ministry said.
