Senior US official visits Pakistani consulate in Chicago to express solidarity with victims of Lahore blast

CHICAGO, Mar 31 (APP): A top official of the U.S. state of Illinois expressed sympathies and condolences for the victims of the deadly weekend terrorist bombing in Lahore when she visited the Pakistani consulate in here on Wednesday.
Lt. Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti, on behalf of Governor Bruce Rauner, said that the people of Illinois are with their Pakistani sisters and brothers in this difficult time.She also signed the Condolence Book.
Consul General Faisal Niaz Tirmizi thanked Lt. Governor Sanguinetti for her sympathy and solidarity with the people of Pakistan, saying the Pakistani nation’s determination to fight the menace of terrorism would not be effected by such cowardly terrorist acts.
In another gesture of solidarity, US Senator Bob Casey (Democratic, Pennsylvania) lauded the sacrifices of the people and Government of Pakistan in battling the menace of terrorism that has struck the country, while speaking at an event organized by Dr. Tariq Butt, Chairman of the Lahore Chapter of Chicago Sister City International on March 29.
Senator Casey, son of a former Governor of Pennsylvania, is a member Senate’s Finance Committee and a former member of Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee during which he paid three official visits to Pakistan in 2008 and 2011.
Senator Casey also appreciated the role played by Dr. Tariq Butt, Chairman of the Lahore Chapter of Chicago Sister City International, in cementing relations between Pakistan and the United States.
Consul General Tirmizi thanked the people of Chicago and Chicago Sister City International for showing solidarity with the victims of the tragic incident in Lahore.
He reiterated Pakistan’s firm resolve to eliminating terrorism from the country.
