Over 100 people with eyes injuries admitted in SMHS Hospital

ISLAMABAD, (APP): As the use of lethal weapons and live
ammunition against the peaceful protesters by Indian troops and police
personnel continues unabated, over a hundred people with pellet injuries in
eyes have been admitted at Srinagar’s SMHS Hospital since Saturday.
Doctors have said that over 90 percent of these victims of pallets
might not regain their proper eyesight, reported KMS.
A senior doctor at the SMHS Hospital in an interview said that 102
patients with severe pellet injuries in eyes had been admitted in the
hospital.
“Most of the patients have suffered severe damages in their eyes during
pellet firing by cops. These patients will regain their vision but they will
have a problem in their eyesight,” said Associate Professor, Dr Sajad Khanday.
He said that in the normal trauma where 10 percent eye is damaged,
patients regain eyesight. “However, patients admitted in the hospital in last few days have suffered 90 percent eye damages due to pellets,” he added.
Dr Sajad Khanday said that over 90 percent patients admitted in the
hospital during last three days are unlikely to regain their proper eyesight.
Another doctor wishing not to be named said that 87 patients had been
operated upon in last few days. He said that two youth, who had sustained
critical pellet injuries, had lost their eyesight forever. “There are still 40 patients, whose condition is not good. They may only regain 5 to 10 percent vision,” he added.
