12,944 enumerators to conduct census in three major cities of Sindh

KARACHI, (MILLAT/APP): No less than 12,944 enumerators
comprising officials from local government, school education, health
and revenue departments will remain engaged during the first phase of
National Census 2017 in Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas from March
15 to April 15.
Concerned officials talking to APP here on Monday said all
arrangements have been finalised to conduct the exercise smoothly and
safely in the three most thickly populated divisions of Sindh.
Around 7,118 enumerators will realize their responsibility in
Karachi, 4,461 in Hyderabad and 1,365 enumerators in Mirpurkhas during
first phase of the exercise.
In reply to a question, the officials said enumerators will be
provided security cover by the provincial police department as well as
by armed forces.
“As per directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP – Sindh),
A.D. Khowaja 10,800 cops will be deployed to provide security cover to
the census enumerators,” they said.
In reply to another question, they said the enumerators will
conduct house listing followed by enumeration.
Army personnel were said to be also deputed for the enumeration
job so as to facilitate civilian staffers in sensitive areas of the
metropolis.
“As per arrangements, there would be one enumerator for each block
comprising 200 to 250 houses,” the officials said.
Discussing arrangements being made for the exercise, they said
control rooms are being established at district levels and that these
will be an essential part of the security plan developed by the police
department.
They also mentioned that 3,029 enumerators are being deputed for
Larkana, 2,580 for Sukkur and 2,040 enumerators for Shaheed
Benazirabad division during second phase of the national census.
