4 economic giants to set up world grid passing through Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, March 31 (APP): The world’s four economic powers
will establish an inter-connective grid for transmission of
electricity from China to rest of the world connecting Pakistan
as a gateway.
Secretary Water and Power Muhammad Younus Dagha, who is
currently in Beijing to attend a conference, congratulated
China, Russia, Korea and Japan, which had signed a Memorandum
of Understanding (MoU) to work on the global inter-connectivity
power grid.
He said the four countries represented more than 70% of
Asia’s power demand. They, however, needed to tap the unutilized
resources of clean energy lying in the countries in the
neighbourhood of the proposed global grid, which might not have
developed that much demand. Pakistan could be one of those
countries, he stressed, according to a message received here.
The Ministry of Water and Power and State Grid Corporation of
China are working closely to build an Interconnection Grid for
electricity between Pakistan and China which will mutually benefit
both the countries by utilizing each other’s energy potential while
the additional power would be transmitted to the rest parts of the
world through the grid.
The Secretary Water and Power has been actively participating
at the Global Energy Interconnection Conference, which is being
attended by more than 700 delegates representing numerous nations
across the globe.
He said the building of an Interconnection Grid between
Pakistan and China would allow the former to meet its energy demands
on as and when required basis.
It would also benefit China to from the potential of clean
energy from Pakistan, especially hydroelectricity on the Indus River
cascade lying all along the route of China Pakistan Economic
Corridor, he added.
