Country-wide intermittent rain spell continues; PMD forecast more downpour

ISLAMABAD, March 13 (APP): Different parts of the country,
including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, continued receiving intermittent
rain on Sunday for the third consecutive day.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast scattered
rain with thundershower accompanied by strong gusty winds and
isolated hailstorm in Kashmir, Islamabad, Sargodha, Rawalpindi,
Gujranwala, Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, FATA and
Gilgit-Baltistan for next 24 hours.
Weather expert Dr Muhammad Hanif said rain and snowfall over
the hills would continue in Gilgit, Hunza, Murree and Galyat.
He warned that the prevailing weather conditions could cause
landslide in vulnerable areas of Hazara division and Kashmir.
He said a new spell of rain would in Punjab, Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa and north Balochistan would start within two days.
The present rain-spell, which started on Friday, is likely to
persist till Monday morning while another spell is expected from
Wednesday.
Recent rains have turned the weather cold and there is a
considerable decrease in pollen counts in Islamabad.
According to the Met Office, heavy fall could generate
urban/flash flooding in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat,
FATA, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Lahore divisions and Kashmir during
next 24 hours.
Rainfall recorded in last 24 hours was: Islamabad 72,
Rawalpindi, 57, Mandibahauddin, Sargodha, 46, Murree 45, Mangla 26,
Sialkot Cantt 24, Jhelum 20, Bahawalnagar, D.G.Khan 18, Lahore 17,
Kot Addu , Faisalabad 16, Multan, Gujrat 04, Gujranwala 03, Cherat
79, Malamjaba 73, Risalpur 70, Dir 54, Lower Dir 47, Pattan 39,
Saidu Sharif 34, Kalam 27, Peshawar 26, Chitral, Balakot 25,
Mirkhani 21, Drosh 20, Kohat, Parachinar 17, Kakul 16, Toba Tek
Singh 14, D.I.Khan 12, Bannu 10, Rawalakot 80, Muzaffarabad 48,
Kotli 28 and Garhi Dupatta 24mm.
Kalam valley received one foot and Malamjabba 2 inches
snowfall during last 24 hours, whereas 35øC highest temperature was
recorded in Sh. Benazirabad, Sindh .
