Death toll of rains, land sliding rise to 65 in KP: PDMA

PESHAWAR (APP): The death toll of the victims of the recent
devastated torrential rain and land sliding on Wednesday mounted to 65 while 61 others injured in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as relief activities were in full swing in the affected areas.
According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), a total of
65 people died so far in the rain related incidents in Khyber Pakthunkhwa including 17 in Shangla, 13 in Swat, 14 in Kohistan, six in Dir Upper,two each in Bannu, Dir Lower, Chitral, Mardan, Batagram, one each in Malakand, Manshera, Abbottabad, Peshawar and Charsadda districts respectively.
Out of total 61 injured, 17 persons sustained injuries in Shangla, 13 in
Swat, two in Kohistan, one each in Malakanad, Peshawar, Abbottabad and Dir Lower, eight in Dir Upper, four in Manshera, three in Charsadda and five in Buner districts respectively.
The heavy torrential rain coupled with land-sliding and avalanches
damaged 929 houses including 67 in Shangla, 165 in Swat, two in Malakand, 100 in Dir Upper, seven in Manshera, one in Charsadda, two in Mardan and 15 each in Buner districts respectively. At least 536 houses were damaged in Abbottabad, four in Peshawar and 15 in Batagram. About 30 people who were reportedly stranded in heavy landslide on April 4 last at village Atori tehsil Kalyan in Kohistan, two dead bodies and 5 were recovered from slides so far.
Relief activities are in full swing in the rain affected districts where
officials of various departments are busy to help the needy people. Relief goods including blankets, tents, floor mates etc were distributed among the victims.
