Doctors warn against waterborne diseases in summer

ISLAMABAD, (APP): With rise in the mercury, doctors sounded an
alert on summer-related diseases which are likely to be on the rise in a
few weeks among children.
Dr. Mohsin Butt (MBBS, MRCP, FCPS) in an interview to a Private news
channel said the most common types of diseases with the rise in temperature are vomiting and diarrhoea. This is triggered by low hygienic levels. Poor
quality drinking water and unhygienic food also play a role in such
diseases.
“Cut fruits during summer are a common source of food poisoning among
children. Children also drink poor quality water which leads to
diarrhoea, he said.
“It is best that children eat home-cooked food. Parents should be
careful that children wash hands before eating and maintain a high standard of hygiene in general,” another child specialist Dr. Javed Iqbal
Sheikh said.
Doctors advised that a few precautionary measures can be taken to avoid
such problems. These include drinking boiled water, saying no to raw food
or substandard food from bazaar, eating mostly home-cooked food, trashing leftovers, and washing your hands before every meal and after going to the washroom.
