Farmers advised to keep wheat crop standing in fields

ISLAMABAD, (MILLAT ONLINE/APP): The Agriculture experts have advised the wheat growers not to start crop harvesting in rainy days as any prolong spell of rains could damage the harvested crop.
They further advised the farmers to keep their
wheat crop standing in the fields to avoid any damage due to recent
rains and asked them for acting upon the directives of provincial
field extension departments.
Commenting on the prevailing weather situation an official in
the Ministry of National Food Security and Research on Friday told APP
that wheat harvesting in Sindh have already been started.
He said that wheat crop in Sidnh was safe from the weather
impacts and procurement drive for the current season’s crop had also
been started to facilitate the growers to sell their produces on
official fixed rates.
He informed that in Punjab Province wheat harvesting would
start from April 15 and all arrangements have been finalized to kick
off the procurement campaign in the province.
The provincial governments through their field extensions
departments were providing complete assistance to wheat growers
across the crop growing areas to facilitate the farmers and
minimizing the impact of rains on wheat, he added.
He said that the field extensions of the provincial
agriculture department were activated to provide complete guideline
and technical help to the growers for avoiding any damages occurring due
to recent spell of rains.
The farmers, he said have also been advised to put their
harvested wheat crop vertical lines and take proper measure for the
drainage of the stagnant water to save the crop from moisture impacts.
