FJWU celebrates Intl Women Day

RAWALPINDI, (MILLAT/APP) : Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) on
Wednesday organized an event to celebrate International Women Day.
Assistant Prof./Incharge English Department, Dr. Sarwet Rasul welcomed
the audience and gave a brief introduction of the history and importance of International Women’s Day.
The Vice Chancellor FJWU Prof. Dr. Samina Amin Qadir was Chief Guest
while Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Dr. Naheed Zia Khan, Assistant Prof. Mathematical Sciences Department, Dr. Aayesha Rafiq and Lecturer FJWU, Ms Humaira Zulfiqar were present on the occasion.
Prof. Dr. Samina Amin Qadir addressing the participants said as a
pioneer female higher education institution in Pakistan, the university believes that true liberation comes with socio-economic emancipation.
She further said that today on this International Women’s Day, let us
reaffirm our commitment to women’s rights, the inherent dignity and equal rights of men and women. Let us stand together and assist each other in achieving our goals of better life for all.
Dr. Naheed Zia Khan expressing her views said women are not weak, they
are strong and maximum opportunities should be provided to women not only in their houses but also at professional level.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Sarwat Rasool said this is a day for
commemoration of women’s achievements and celebration of their extraordinary potentials. It is a time to reflect on the barriers that still remain there and how they can be overcome. There are many issues which are faced by Pakistani women that can be eliminated by educating women and providing them opportunities to participate in mainstream economic activities. She said women are active agents of change and without their real participation no country can become prosperous.
While appreciating the women Ms Humaira Zulfiqar said in modern era
women are playing great role in every profession. She further said, “We should not differentiate between men and women particularly in professional life and women’s competence in all walks of life should be appreciated.
