Food Authority being set up to check quality of food items

ISLAMABAD, (MILLAT/APP): Parliamentary Secretary for Interior and Narcotics Control Dr Muhammad Afzal Khan Dhandla Tuesday informed the National Assembly that Food Authority was being set up to check quality of various food items.
Responding to a Calling Attention Notice moved by Shakila Luqman and others regarding non-existence of laboratories for quality control of food items, he said the Interior Ministry had already sent a draft bill to the Law Ministry in this regard.
He said facility for analysis of food items was available at National Institute of Health.
Dr Afzal said after setting up of the food authority, more facilities for testing of food items would be available.
He said 480 raids were conducted in various parts of the capital last year. Some 305 samples were found substandard and their challans were sent to courts.
He said the Chief Commissioner has set up committees to conduct raids on food outlets to check the quality.
