ISLAMABAD, (MILLAT/APP): Freedom Network has organized day
long training workshop on Digital Safety to improve the awareness
and ability of Pakistani women journalists, media workers and
students.
Addressing the session, Digital safety expert Nighat Dad said everyone
should gain critical information on digital safety, digital security, and digital ethics to cope up with issues related to digital world.
She said Password security is one of the most commonly
ignored aspects of online safety. If someone discovers your
passwords, they have immediate access to all your personal online
information – including your financial details. The idea behind
Internet security is to keep your personal information to
yourself, while the idea behind social media is to share.
This isn’t a problem, provided you’re careful about what you
share. If you’re too generous with personal details, you can
become a victim of identity theft, financial fraud or burglary.
Providing too much personal information can even expose you to
physical danger, she added.
She said, Protecting your PIN numbers, passwords, credit
card details and banking information is priority number one. And
even though it’s common to share seemingly harmless information
like your birthplace or birth date on social media, this
information can be used in identity theft.
Most social media sites give you a wide range of privacy
settings, so take advantage of these to protect yourself. Make
sensible decisions about the individuals and groups that are
allowed to view your posts.
In the workshop, the participents had training session on
Digital Safety covering, Digital safety measures, Online
harassment, Cyber stalking and Cyber bullying.
In the workshop, trainers learn the basics of digital safety
so they can make the right decisions when it comes to staying safe
online.
The purpose of the training is to improve the awareness and
ability of Pakistani women journalists, media workers, and
students to take digital safety precautions and lead safer online
lives.
