Govt reducing gender discrimination: Baliqh-ur-Rehman

MULTAN, March 25 (APP): State Minister for Education, Trainings
and Standards in Higher Education, Engineer Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman on Friday said that the government was working on different projects to minimize gender discrimination including building of women universities in the country.
He said that educating a boy meant educating a person while imparting
education to a girl was aimed at giving education to a family.
Stressing the need of education, the minister said, “Islam urges each
man and woman to seek knowledge.”
The state minister was speaking at a prize distribution ceremony of a
private college here.
Baligh-ur-Rehman informed that the PML-N government had doubled the
budget of Higher Education Commission by raising it to Rs 83 billion in current year from its budget of Rs 43 billion in 2012.
He said that by accomplishing health, education and other projects, the
government would make Pakistan prosperous.
About China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the minister said, “China
has brought the highest ever investment in our country.”
He stated that no government in the world could complete its manifesto
within two and a half year, adding that electricity loadshedding would end by 2018.
Regarding out of school children, he informed that over 1.9 million kids
had joined schools so far.
All the provinces were spending one fourth of its budget on education,
he said and added, “It is unfortunate that we could not achieve 100 per cent literacy rate even after passage of 68 years of the independence.”
On law and order situation in the country, he said that it had improved
a lot in two-and-a half year tenure of incumbent government.
He informed that they were launching new disciplines of engineering at
Bahauddin Zakariya University and Islamia University Bahawalpur.
Earlier, MNSUA VC, Dr Asif Ali, MPA Rana Mehmoodul Hassan and Principal,
Naveed Zaffar also spoke on the occasion.
