Growers call for declaring emergency to revive agriculture sector

HYDERABAD, (MILLAT/APP): The farmers’ representatives from Punjab
and Sindh provinces have called for declaring an emergency to revive
the agriculture sector and declare the sector as an industry.
A meeting of the Sindh Chamber of Agriculture and Anjuman
Kashtkaran-i-Punjab was held at the former’s office here on Sunday.
The two organizations announced that they would launch a joint struggle on behalf of the farmers of the two provinces to urged the governments to accept their demands.
The meeting, chaired by SCA’s Vice President Syed Shahnawaz Shah and
Anjuman’s Mohammad Amir, complained that the cost of agricultural
inputs was being allowed to increase without the official checks.
They demanded special packages for reforms in the agricultural sector
and requested the government to formulate the agricultural policies in
consultation with the farmers.
