Hashmi seeks forgiveness in contempt plea

ISLAMABAD, (MILLAT ONLINE):A former Senator, Nehal Hashmi on Monday asked the Supreme Court to forgive him while taking judicial restrain in the contempt of court proceedings.

As the hearing went under way a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar played the video clip of Mr Nehal’s latest controversial remarks against the judiciary.
Subsequently, Hashmi sought forgiveness taking judicial restrain. To which Chief Justice remarked that “how can you appeal for leniency, adding that if he (chief justice) was in Hashmi’s place, he would have drowned in shame”.
The court then summoned bar representatives to give their input, to which lawyers’ leader Rasheed A Rizvi said the legal fraternity was ashamed of Hashmi’s act.
Chief Justice remarked that court would examine the cancellation of Nehal Hashmi’s Sindh Bar Council’s license as well and issued notices to President of Supreme Court Bar Association, Pakistan Bar Council, and Sindh Bar Council seeking their stance on the matter.
The court adjourned further hearing of the case till March 27.
It may be note that Hashmi, a former senator, was jailed for a month and disqualified for five years by the apex court on February 1 over his contemptuous remarks made last year. Later, the court took another notice of his controversial post-jail release media talk.
At the last hearing of the case on March 12, the apex court had dismissed Hashmi’s response as unsatisfactory and decided to indict him.
