HRCP marked Intl women’s day

ISLAMABAD, (MILLAT/APP): Human Rights Commission of Pakistan
has organized a seminar to recognize the role of women human
rights defenders and protect them from discrimination and
harassment on international women’s day on Wednesday.
The statement of the commission said, Women rights defenders
are subject to the same types of risk as any human rights
defender, but as women, they are more vulnerable particularly
gender-specific violence are also targeted for or exposed to
gender-specific threat.
In the seminar many motivational speakers transferred their
personal experience and spoke critically about their initiatives.
Executive Director, Lok Virsa, Dr Fouzia Saeed said while
addressing the seminar, transfer of activism to our youth is very
important there is need to promote youth activism through modern
media and communicate more effectively on Work camps activities,
voluntary commitment and intercultural learning as well as
providing a collaborative platform with open-access for future
participants.
While sharing her life experiences famous poetess and
columnist Kishwar Naheed said that today’s Pakistan has changed a
lot since she started her professional career.
“As women we should not wait for the circumstances to change
in our favor inserted we ourselves should strive to change the
situation in our favor” she added.
She said Pakistani society is more enduring and progressive
as we have seen women participation in all walks of life whether
its judiciary, arm forces and Information technology.
She said, Young women need to understand that their
generation have more opportunity and support than that of our
generation hence they need to utilize these opportunity in
productive ways.
Social Activist Marwi Sermad, Famous Choreographer Sheema
Khurasani, MNA Najma Hameed and Mangla Sharma also attended the
event and expressed their experiences of professional lives.
