Human rights situation has improved: Sandhu

LAHORE,JMILLAT+an 9 (APP): Provincial Minister for Human
Rights and Minorities Affairs Khalil Tahir Sandhu Monday said
that a Specialized Provincial Treaty Implementation Cell (TIC) was
being set up which would be a model mechanism for other
provinces as far as existing TIC setups were concerned.
“We are taking vital measures to promote human
rights situation as well as providing equal facilities to
minorities living in the province”,he added.
He stated this while presiding over a meeting held to
review human rights situation in Punjab.
The Minister said that the government have apprehended and
prosecuted those responsible for attacks on the minorities and
involved in violation of human rights and prosecuted the accused,
regardless of position or rank.
He said the provincial government made good gains to improve
the human rights situation in Punjab in challenging circumstances.
Efforts have been redoubled to protect religious minorities and
introducing legislation in the context of violence against women and children, measures to improve investigation and prosecution of harassment, acid attacks which target women.
