ICIJ Director’s refusal, negates its own stance over Panama Papers: Daniyal

ISLAMABAD, (APP): Pakistan Muslim League-N Member of
National Assembly Daniyal Aziz has said that Director of International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) Gerard Ryle’s refusal
to appear in a private TV channel programme, clearly negated their
stance over the Panama Papers Leaks, erroneously mentioning the name
of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
He reaffirmed that it was correct that ICIJ had deleted the
name of Nawaz Sharif as it was a factual error which also justified
the stance, taken by the government.
The ICIJ Director had refused to appear on a Pakistani channel
Geo television, seemingly as he could not defend the basic errors
earlier posted at their website about Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
concerning Panama Leaks.
The programme host Talat Hussain said that despite confirming
his participation in the programme several times, Gerard Ryle did
not come up to share his comments.
Daniyal Aziz said the website of ICIJ contained an address
where one could file complaints and subsequently, he had also
sent a three-page letter containing 17 points to highlight the contradictions in the ICIJ story.
But ICIJ did not respond to the complaint, he said, adding
Director ICIJ was incorrectly using the word clarification.
He said details about shares certificates held by the wife
of Prime Minister of Iceland were removed from the website,
similarly they changed data about other leaders.
He said the Prime Minister met the demand of the Opposition
by forming the judicial commission under the Commissions of
Inquiry Act, 1956.
