Indian police arrest Er Rasheed, trade leader in Srinagar

ISLAMABAD, (APP): Indian police arrested member of the so-called
Kashmir Assembly and the President of Awami Itihad Party (AIP), Engineer Abdur Rasheed, during a protest march in Srinagar.
The AIP spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Engineer
Rasheed along with dozens of party workers was arrested after he defied
restrictions and took out a protest at Lal Chowk in Srinagar, Kashmir Media Service reported.
He said that the protest was held against slapping of draconian law,
Public Safety Act, on youth.
Many people were injured, some of them critically, when the police used force to disperse the protesters, he said.
“In order to appease India, police are hell-bent upon destroying the
future of youth,” the spokesman quoted Engineer Rasheed as having said prior
to his arrest.
Meanwhile, the police also arrested Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers
Federation leader, Fayaz Ahmad Butt, along with dozens of traders while he was leading a demonstration in Srinagar against the authorities’ failure in
rehabilitating of the traders who were affected by the devastating flood in
2014.
