Int’l Women Day on March 8

ISLAMABAD, (APP): International Women’s Day (IWD)
will be observed on March 8 to highlight endeavours of women
in various fields of life besides plight of vulnerable and
distress women.
The focus of the celebrations will be on respect, appreciation
and love towards women to their economic, political, and social
achievements.
The 2016 theme for International Women’s Day is “Planet 50-50
by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality”.
Observance of the day by the United Nations this year will
reflect on how to accelerate the 2030 Agenda and building momentum
for the effective implementation of the new Sustainable Development
Goals. It will equally focus on new commitments under UN Women’s
Step It Up initiative, and other existing commitments on gender
equality, women’s empowerment and women’s human rights.
Globally a number of events have been organized on the
day. Likewise various government and semi-government organizations
will hold special celebrations.
In this connection National Forum of Women with Disabilities
(NFWWD) and Special Talent Exchange Program (STEP) will organize a
roundtable discussion on `Rights of women with disabilities’ at
National Library.
In evening civil society organizations will hold a walk at
Press Club.
International Women’s Day is a worldwide occasion to
designate progress made towards achieving gender equality and
women’s empowerment nationally and internationally.
