Journalists facing tough situation in occupied Kashmir

ISLAMABAD, (APP): Journalists in occupied Kashmir are
facing a tough situation while covering free use of firepower by
Indian armed forces on unarmed protesters, which has claimed at
least 39 innocent lives, besides injuries to over 2100
others.
Many journalists especially accompanied by cameras,
gathering news from the middle, complained that they were time and
again threatened by Indian forces of dire consequences if they did
not stop coverage, Kashmir Media Service reported.
The Kashmiris, taking to the streets following the killing
of Hizbul Mujahideen Commander, Burhan Muzaffar Wani, believe that
Indian news channels are not showing a true picture of the ground
situation in the Valley.
“There is a strong public anger against the media, for
hiding the truth and relying on propaganda,” reported The Indian
Express correspondent, who faced outburst of the cousin of an
injured whose eyes were hit by pellets.
Reporters working for Indian media are lucky enough that
they are just hated for their biased coverage, but the media
persons working for local newspapers often have to face the wrath
of Indian armed personnel for showing their brutalities on unarmed
civilians.
At times, they are given even life threats and many
Kashmiri journalists have fallen victim to Indian state terrorism
in the past.
