Laws for protection of women be implemented in letter and spirit

KARACHI, (APP): The enacted laws for the safety and
protection of women be implemented in true letter and spirit to
ensure a healthy society.
This was stressed by Prof. Dr. Nabeel Zuberi, Chairman Sociology
Department Karachi University, while speaking at a seminar on `Women’s rights and empowerment: Gender equality for sustainable development,
an official of the University said on Saturday.
Prof. Dr. Nabeel Zuberi further stated women are advancing in
every walk of life in the contemporary age but they are
still fighting for their rights and safety.
Director General Sindh Civil Services Academy Iqbal Dewan said
that women are fully aware that their rights could play a positive
role in the society.
Human Rights Activist Rana Asif said that gender equality is
not just an objective but a dire need. Dowry culture needs to be
eliminated and women must be given their due rights, he added.
Ensuring gender equality and justice is pivotal for societal
growth, he said.
Dr. Kausar Perveen, Department of Sociology KU, said that
consultation with men is pivotal for empowerment of women and
implementation of women protection rights. Islam does advocate it
and gives equal rights to the women.
Member Bar Council Sindh Zia Awan said `Absence of political
will is the reason behind the non-implementation of women protection
laws.
Faculty Member Sociology Department KU Nausheen Raza while
delivering the welcome address, emphasized on the women empowerment
and termed it pivotal for societal growth.
She added that men are an important part of the society and
they need to support the women in achieving the greater goal
of gender equality and women empowerment.
A society based on gender equality will be a source of nation’s
progress, she said.
