Martyrs of Handwara, Kupwara remembered
ISLAMABAD, (MILLAT ONLINE):The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party and other Hurriyat leaders and organizations while remembering the massacres of Handwara and Kupwara have said that the incidents are proof of Indian brutal occupation and oppression in the territory.
Around two hundred civilians were butchered by the Indian forces during incidents of mass killings in the month of January in 1990s in Srinagar, Handwara and Kupwara, KMS reported.
The DFP in a statement paying tributes to the martyrs said, the days like 21st January, 25th January and 27th January are the days for renewal and reiteration of Kashmiris’ commitment to take forward the mission of their martyrs till the achievement of the cherished goal. It also called for observance of 26th January, India’s Republic Day, as Black Day.
Illegally detained APHC leader, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, in a statement from Kathua Jail in Jammu also paid homage to the martyrs of Handwara and Kupwara.
The JKL-R Chief Patron, Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo, in his statement denouncing the harassment of people by Indian troops across Kashmir appealed to the Kashmiris to observe complete strike on January 26 to send a loud and clear message to the world that they would continue to peacefully pursue the freedom struggle till they were granted their right to self-determination.
The Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement Chairman, Zafar Akbar Butt, stressed on greater unity among the pro-freedom leadership to carry forward the freedom movement to its logical conclusion in a more effective manner.
Hurriyat leader, Javaid Ahmed Mir, appealed to the United Nations and the world community to take notice of the Indian brutalities in the occupied territory and play role in peaceful settlement of the lingering Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations.
Hurriyat leaders, Shabbir Ahmed Dar and Imtiyaz Reshi, in a joint statement asked for whereabouts of Sirajud Din Farooqi, the brother-in-law of liberation leader, Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar. Farooqi was subjected to custodial disappearance by Indian troops on 22 January in 1990.
The Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League in a statement issued in Srinagar demanded immediate release of all illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and activists.
