NA body for National Transport Policy to ensure road safety

ISLAMABAD, (APP): National Assembly Standing Committee
on Communication on Thursday recommended that National Transport
Policy should be introduced in order to further streamline the
road plans and ensure safety passengers.
The meeting of the committee was held here at National
Transport Research Center (NTRC) office.
The meeting was chaired by MNA Sufyan Yusuf and was attended
by members of the committee including MNA Chaudhry Khalid Javaid
Warraich, MNA Maiza Hameed, MNA Nazir Ahmed Bughio, MNA Ramesh
Lal, MNA Salim Rehman, MNA Eng. Hameed-ul-Haq, MNA Muhammad Muzammil
Qureshi, MNA Molana Qamar ud Din, MNA Sahibzada Tariq Ullah, MNA
Naseema Hafeez Panezai, MNA Eng. Usman Khan Tarakai, and MNA
Shahjehan Muneer Mangrio attended the meeting.
NTRC officials informed the committee that the draft of the
National Transport Policy was formulated in 2008 and submitted to
Planning Commission in 2011 for further process.
The committee decided to invite all the stakeholders
including Secretary Communications and Planning Commission to
further discuss the proposed draft of the Policy.
It directed NTRC officials to prove their abilities
and focus on the research work about road plans and passengers
safety.
The committee expressed dis-satisfaction over the briefing
of NTRC, saying that the center can play very positive role by
conducting research on road plans.
It also recommended that the NTRC employees on deputation
to other organizations should be called back.
Senior officials of NTRC informed the committee that the
draft of the National Transport Policy was prepared with objective
to establish a safe, reliable and efficient transport system.
