Nepalese Army Chief calls on Defence Minister

RAWALPINDI, May 16 (APP):Chief of Nepalese Army General Rajendra Chhetri Wednesday called on Minister for Defence Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan here at the Ministry.
The Minister warmly welcomed the Nepalese Army Chief to Pakistan, on first such a visit after 2006, and said that Pakistan greatly valued its relations with Nepal and desired to further strengthen the bilateral ties, said a press release.
Both the sides agreed that there was considerable potential to further enhance mutual relations in defence and other fields.
The Minister informed the dignitary that Pakistan had developed one of the best training facilities and infrastructures for its armed forces, offered assistance in development of training infrastructure and capacity building for Nepal Armed Forces.
He also proposed establishment of institutional framework for defence collaboration between the two countries.
Khurram also highlighted the important role of Pakistan as a stabilizing factor for regional security, adding that regional cooperation was essential to attain sustainable peace and stability. “Relations between sovereign nations need to be based on mutual respect and equality.”
The visiting dignitary highlighted the importance Nepal placed on strengthening defence collaboration with Pakistan and expressed the hope that his visit would serve to widen and deepen defence cooperation between the two countries. He supported the idea of a wide-ranging agreement for defence cooperation.
