Omission of Kashmir in Moon’s speech unfortunate: Gilani

ISLAMABAD, (MILLAT+APP): Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet
Conference, Syed Ali Gilani has said it is highly disheartening
and unfortunate that the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon did not
make any reference of Kashmir dispute in his official speech in
the UN General Assembly.
Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Held Srinagar said that
the Kashmiris had pinned hope that his Excellency will make a
reference of Kashmir dispute during his official speech, KMS
reported.
“It is very shocking that while referring to conflicting
zones in world he did not make any mention of Jammu and Kashmir.
Kashmir remains a long pending issue and the UN stands accountable
and answerable as to why it ignores and shuts its eyes from this
issue which tops the UN agenda since 1947. Despite more than 18
resolutions passed in favour of Kashmir, we as a nation fail to
understand why this august house can’t fulfill its own
commitment,” he said.
“Given the historical and unparalleled sacrifices of people
of Jammu and Kashmir, we deserve to be given due attention as this
long standing conflict has engulfed more than three generations”,
he said.
Referring to the current gloomy situation in occupied
Kashmir, the APHC Chairman said that the territory was passing
through a turmoil, facing disproportionate and brute force leaving
more than 90 massacred, 250 blinded, over 12,000 injured, 50,000
houses ransacked, 4,000 vehicles smashed and burnt, 1,900 youth
languishing in different police stations and more than 300 people
facing illegal detention under draconian law, Public Safety Act,
and many of them shifted outside Kashmir Valley.”
Syed Ali Gilani said that Jammu and Kashmir was not merely a
territorial dispute between the two neighboring countries, but it
was an issue of survival for more than 1.5 million Kashmiri
people.
“It has always threatened the peace of the whole South Asia
creating a situation of uncertainty and political turbulence
leading to a war like situation whenever the temperatures escalate
on either side. Unless this bone of contention is addressed
according to the wishes and aspirations of its natives, permanent
peace and stability will remain distant dream,” he added.
Meanwhile, the APHC spokesman in a statement expressed
serious concern over continued harassment of the family members of
Syed Ali Gilani.
“Gilani’s elder son Dr Nayeem Gilani is being repeatedly
questioned and mentally tortured for the last couple of days in
police stations and Cargo”.
He is a heart patient and suffered massive heart attack in
2009 after which he underwent angioplasty with two stents in his
heart,” he said.
