Parliament be taken into confidence on ToRs of joining Counter Terrorism Coalition: Senators

ISLAMABAD, (MILLAT ONLINE):The Senators on Friday called for taking the parliament into confidence on the joining the
Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition, its terms of reference (ToRs) and allowing
General (Retd) Raheel Sharif to head the Coalition.
Participating in a discussion on an Adjournment Motion, moved by Sherry Rehman
regarding the commitments, with regard to the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition,
they said parliamentary oversight is the key for ensuring transparency in government
affairs.
Farhatullah Babar said the parliament or foreign office was not taken into
confidence on the issue.
Shibli Fraz said the current Parliament has done nothing to legislate for further
consolidating its authority.
He called for taking steps to make the country economically self-dependent
which is the imperative for making independent decisions.
Sehar Kamran urged the government to take further steps for ensuring
transparency in its affairs.
She said that country had no foreign minister for the last four years, adding
country could not work properly without devising an independent foreign policy.
Nasreen Jalil stressed for putting our own house in order and ensuring
transparency in government affairs for better governance.
Rehman Malik urged the government to give details of ToRs agreed for
joining the Islamic Counter Terrorism Coalition. He stressed for collective efforts
to resolve majornational issues.
Javed Abbasi criticised Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf for creating hurdles in country’s
rapid progress.
Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldini said Parliament should have taken into confidence before
agreeing on Terms of Reference (ToRs) of Coalition.
Senator Usman Khan Kakar said democracy should be strengthened further in
the country.
He criticised the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for its apparent
inaction and passive approach in resolving issues, being confronted by the Islamic
world.
Mir Kabeer Ahmed Muhammad Shahi said it seemed that the country has been
made fully dependent on the International Monitory Fund (IMF) and World Bank (WB).
He said Pakistan has apparently failed to take solid stand against Myanmar on
issue of Rohingya Muslims.
Talha Mehmood stressed for holding debate before inking any international
agreement. Nuzhat Sadiq, M Hamza, Shahi Sayed also spoke on the different
issues.
