PEMRA chairman discusses development of electronic media with Punjab CM

ISLAMABAD, (APP): Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Absar Alam Thursday called on Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Lahore and discussed matters related to development of electronic media in the country.
He informed the Punjab CM that PEMRA was being developed on
modern lines and efforts were being made to resolve the problems of
the all stockholders as early as possible,said a press release
issued here.
Absar Alam said for promotion of the electronic media, PEMRA
had simplified the procedure of issuance of new licences.
Briefing the Punjab Chief Minister over the plan of digitalization of cable network by September this year,he requested for supporting PEMRA efforts for relaxation of taxes.
He said that cable operators were playing an important role in economic progress of the country.
He said that cable network in 12 big cities of the country would be digitalized by September 30.He gave proposals for addressing the reservations of cable operators regarding Punjab Revenue Authority. The Punjab chief minister promised to postpone imposition of services tax on cable network so that digitalization process of the cable in Punjab should not be delayed.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif promised that steps would
be taken to resolve cable operators issues amicably and assured that
plot for PEMRA office in Lahore would be handed over soon.
