ISLAMABAD, March 11 (APP): Former president and Co-Chairman Pakistan
Peoples Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari Friday said that his party was ready to
support the incumbent government for bringing reforms in the accountability
system.
In an interview with a private news channel, he said there should be
more effective legislation so that innocent people could not be victimized in the name of accountability.
He said PPP does not want conflict with any institution but reforms
within the system and constitution was a viable option.
Zardari said PPP remained victim of terrorism and lost several lives
of its workers and leaders including Benazir Bhutto. His party was
standing by law enforcement agencies in the war against terrorism, he added.
“PPP is standing by the Armed Forces to fight terrorism,” he remarked.
He said after the barbaric incident of Army Public School (APS) attack
on December 16, 2014 in Peshawar, PPP played its due role in formulation of
National Action Plan (NAP).
PPP rendered unprecedented sacrifices to strengthen the democracy
in the country, he said adding, he himself remained in prison for 12 and a
half years out of his total 27 years of political life.
Zardari said, being a President, he had transferred his powers to the
Parliament under the 18th constitutional amendment.
Replying to a question about his return to the country, the former
President said he was staying abroad for medical treatment and would come back to Pakistan in due course.
He said during the sit-ins of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and
Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), PPP fully supported the government of Pakistan
Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) only to safeguard democratic system.
About the performance of PPP’s provincial government in Sindh, he said
the party was being elected consistently due to its public friendly policies
and achievements. A number of development projects were underway in the
province, he added.
Replying to another query about the future of the party in Punjab, he
said Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was holding the command of the party, adding that he (Bilawal) had recently visited the province and would hold a public meeting in southern Punjab soon.
Answering a question about arrest of former federal minister Dr Asim
Hussain, Asif Zardari acknowledging his services as minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources said Asim was his family doctor and an innocent person.
Zardari said he had a strong belief that Dr Asim was not involved in
corruption as well as facilitation of terrorists.
Responding to another query, he said PPP had nothing to do with Uzair
Baloch rather it was the PPP that framed almost 50 cases and issued red warrants against him.
