Provision of facilities in schools top priority: minister

LAHORE, Oct 20 (App): Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan has said that provision of missing facilities in public schools and training institutions in the province is the top most priority of the government. He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a hostel for female teachers at Directorate of Staff Development (DSD).Canadian High Commissioner Perry John Calderwood was also present on the occasion. Provision of furniture, fully equipped science labs, establishing computer labs, digital libraries and construction of hostels are priorities of the School Education Department, he added. The minister said that four-storey hostel had been constructed in collaboration with Pak-Canada Debt Swap Project (PCDSP), at a cost of Rs 90 million. He said that there are 52 rooms with state-of-the-art facilities, accommodating around 100 teachers during their training at DSD. The Canadian high commissioner said on the occasion that women empowerment was necessary for development of any country. Programme Director DSD Saeed Ramzan, Project Director PCDSP Ms Shagufta Zarren, Deputy Director Planning Dr Anila Hassan also attended the ceremony.
