SC serves contempt notice on Nehal Hashmi over controversial remarks

ISLAMABAD, June 1 (APP): The Supreme Court on Thursday served
contempt notice on Nehal Hashmi over his controversial remarks.
A three-member special bench headed by
Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed
and Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan heard the case.
The court directed Nehal Hashmi to submit response till Monday
and appointed the Attorney General for Pakistan as the prosecutor in
the case.
During the course of proceedings, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan
remarked that they are keeping an eye on what is going on.
Justice Ejaz remarked that the Supreme Court had directed the
registrar to nominate persons for the joint investigation team (JIT)
of Panama Papers case.
In his explanation, Hashmi said, he was fasting and could never
had dreamt of referring to judges in such a way.
To that, the bench stated he must submit whatever he had
to say in writing on Monday (June 5).
The court ordered the AGP to compile relevant evidence in
connection with Hashmi’s recent remarks.
