Years on: Police fail to lodge fir in custodial killing case

ISLAMABAD, (APP): The police have failed to register a case
against the troops of Indian Border Security Force involved in custodial killing of a civilian of Baramulla district in Indian Held Kashmir despite the passing of almost twenty two years.
The civilian, Nazir Ahmed Lone, a resident of Kanispora area of the
district, was found dead on June 24, 1994, after having been arrested by BSF
personnel of Chandsooma camp a day before, KMS reported.
“Nazir Ahmad Lone was working in Power Development Department (PDD)
and on June 22, 1994, he was arrested by JD officer of 65 Bn BSF Camp Chandsooma and on next day his body was recovered,” reads a letter written by DIG, Garib Das, to the SP, Baramulla.
The DIG on March 5, 2016, wrote to the SP that after scrutinizing all
the documents and evidences, it was very much clear that Nazir Lone died an unnatural death and the cognizance into this matter had not been taken by the police.
The letter reveals that neither any case has been registered nor any
proceedings have been initiated into the matter.
Garib Das also ordered an inquiry through this letter and asked the
police to lodge an FIR into the matter. However, nothing in this regard has been done by the police so far despite orders issued by the DIG.
