General elections 2018 to be held under new population census: NA told

ISLAMABAD. (APP): State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh
Aftab Ahmed Thursday assured the House that the next general elections 2018 would be held under new population census.
Winding up debate on resolution moved by Dr Nafisa Shah that the
government should take immediate steps to conduct population census in the country, the minister conceded that there should be census in the country.
He said that the census was due in 2008 but despite in power for five
years, the PPP government could not conduct it. Hitting back Dr Nafisa Shah, the minister said the incumbent government has done a lot in various sectors to put the country on road to progress and prosperity.
Recounting the steps, the minister said various mega projects have been
launched under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Work on Karachi-Multan Motorway and Layari Expressway has already been kicked off, he said.
Aftab said the government has not only succeeded to restore peace in
Karachi but also control menace of terrorism in the country.
He said that menace of power load-shedding would also be over powered
completely in 2018.
Earlier, Dr Nafisa said that no census was conducted since 1998 and
there should be national debate in the House on the issue.
She said, “There should be debate whether the resources should merely
be distributed on population basis or other indicators should be included in it”.
