Govt to take provinces on board to implement Green Pakistan Project: Zahid Hamid

ISLAMABAD, (APP): Minister for Climate Change
Zahid Hamid on Thursday said that the government intends to
take all provinces on board in implementing the Green Pakistan
Project.
“The government will create climate change council
to achieve the desired results,” he said while chairing
a meeting, comprising of all representatives of federating
units on the Green Pakistan Project, launched by the Prime
Minister.
The meeting was also attended by provincial
secretaries and representatives of National Highway
Authority (NHA) and Capital Development Authority (CDA).
“Climate Change is beyond border and this project
aims at reviving the forest sector besides sustainability
and conservation of wildlife,” he said.
Zahid Hamid said that the National Forest Policy
2015 demanded that enough budget must be allocated for
all developmental projects for trees plantation.
“This project should be implemented by taking on
board provinces as after the 18th Amendment, forestry is
provincial subjects but federal givernment would provide
full support,” he added.
The minister stressed the need for preparing
comprehensive projects to tap 100 billion dollars from
Green Climate Fund. This, he said, required collective
efforts and joint mechanisms to save the nation from
the impact of climate change.
The representatives from all federating units
showed their willingness and cooperation.
Some representatives also showed their concerns
regarding financial constraints.
They agreed to extend their full support in order
to implement the project.
