Importers, exporters must use FDP to route consignments: Collector Customs

FAISALABAD, March 25 (APP): Faisalabad’s importers and exporters should use Faisalabad Dry Port (FDP) at maximum extent to route their consignments as they are routing their consignments through Karachi Port which has decreased the trade volume at the FDP.
This was stated by Zulifqar Ali Chaudhary, Collector Customs Faisalabad, during a meeting with the FCCI Office Bearers and Executive Committee at FCCI Board Room on Friday. Chairman Faisalabad Dry Port Trust (FDPT) Sh. Mukhtar Ahmad and prominent industrialists and large number of importers and exporters were also present at the moment.
The Collector Customs further said that since assumption of charge he cleared 300 stuck-up containers out of which 41 containers were reportedly de-sealed already. Hence by taking special initiative, he resolved this issue up to the entire satisfaction of importers and exporters.
He referred Chief Minister Punjab statement wherein he stated that 70 percent of the export was based from Punjab including majority of the share from Faisalabad. In this regard, he urged the Faisalabad’s exporters to route their consignments through Faisalabad Dry Port so the adequate revenue may be generated and FDPT may be upgraded.
He appreciated the efforts of Chairman FDPT Sh. Muhammad Ahmad and founder Chairman Mian Muhammad Latif to revive the FDPT activities. He further disclosed that he had taken special initiatives to curb the Customs personnel involved in malpractices.
He announced that undocumented import commodities would be given time frame of seven days to present the relevant documents otherwise action would be taken in accordance with law.
Earlier, President FCCI Ch. Muhammad Nawaz during his welcome address highlighted the issues of importers and exporters. He said that the Faisalabad emerged as one of the largest imported machinery hub of the country.
The Collector Customs ensured to direct the concerned quarters not to receive any undue penalties against the law.
