SC indicts Talal Chaudhry in a contempt case

ISLAMABAD, (MILLAT ONLINE):The Supreme Court on Thursday indicted Minster of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry in a contempt of court case.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and comprising Justice Maqbool Baqar
and Justice Faisal Arab heard the case against Talal over alleged his contemptuous speeches against the apex court.

During the course of proceedings, Kamran Murtaza counsel for Talal Chaudhry appeared before the bench and requested to show restraint and consider the recent orders wherein the SC did not initiate contempt against Nawaz Sharif, Saad Rafique and others.

He pleaded the court to grant time to submit all those orders. “My client is a young parliamentarian and indictment will be a big stain on his client’s political career,” he added.

However, the bench turned down his request.

Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan remarked that there have been instances in the past where a contempt case was dismissed after an indictment. “We will give you the chance to defend Chaudhary, let us indict him,” he added.

The court provided Kamran Murtaza a copy of the charge sheet, which mentioned that the indictment comes on speeches made on September 24 and 27, 2017. The defendant, however, denied the charges.

Later, the court proceedings were adjourned till March 27.
