South Korea, Singapore vow close ties on security issues

SEOUL, (MILLAT ONLINE)::South Korea and Singapore agreed Monday during their defence chiefs’ talks to maintain close partnerships on North Korea and other security issues.
Defence Minister Song Young-moo had a meeting with his Singaporean counterpart Ng Eng Hen in Seoul. The focus of their discussions was pending regional security affairs and ways to promote bilateral military cooperation, according to Song’s ministry, Yonhap reproted.
Song briefed him on Seoul’s efforts to denuclearize Korea and bring lasting peace to the peninsula. He cited a mood of inter-Korean reconciliation driven by the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
He also requested Singapore’s support for South Korea’s initiative to deepen diplomatic and military ties with Southeast Asian countries.
Singapore is serving as rotating chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year. Ng said his country backs Seoul’s move and expressed hope that the two sides will strengthen cooperation on regional and global security.
